Duminy, Viljoen lead SA Champions to emphatic win
South Africa posted 210-3 before Bangladesh’s innings ended on 122 in 18.5 overs, completing a fifth successive victory in the World Championship of Legends. Having already secured a semi-final place, the South Africans finished their group campaign unbeaten.
Duminy struck seven fours and five sixes in his 49-ball innings, following up his 76 against England a day earlier with another commanding contribution.
Colin Ingram provided support with an unbeaten 40 off 25 deliveries, including three fours and two sixes.
After choosing to bat, South Africa lost captain Faf du Plessis for 18 and Wayne Parnell for 22 to slip to 46-2 in the sixth over.
Duminy and Morne van Wyk restored momentum with a third-wicket partnership of 62. Van Wyk hit three sixes in his 19-ball 30 before Duminy and Ingram added an unbroken 102 to take South Africa beyond 200.
Bangladesh’s chase unravelled early as Parnell bowled Jahurul Islam and Robbie Frylinck dismissed Rony Talukdar, both for two.
Viljoen then bowled Fazle Mahmud and Imrul Kayes before Frylinck removed Nasir Hossain, leaving Bangladesh struggling at 29-5 in the seventh over.
Mahmudullah offered resistance with 37 off 26 balls, sharing a 54-run sixth-wicket stand with Arafat Sunny, who contributed 31.
Shaun von Berg ended that partnership by having Mahmudullah caught by Sarel Erwee, before Viljoen returned to dismiss Sunny, Kamrul Islam and Rubel Hossain.
The fast bowler finished with 5-16 from 3.5 overs, while Frylinck claimed 2-20 and Parnell conceded just 12 runs in his three overs while taking one wicket.
