Red Dead Redemption 2 lands new gang hideouts in expansion of open-world
Grand Theft Auto is all anyone can talk about but if Red Dead is the Rockstar Games IP you favour, here’s a little something so you don’t feel left out from the GTA VI hype.
Unfortunately, Rockstar’s attention just simply isn’t tuned into Red Dead at the moment, with that heavily rumoured new-gen port nowhere to be seen.
Thankfully, creative Red Dead Redemption 2 fans are making up for the lack of anything new and official on the horizon, with ‘Gangs of New Hanover’ proving to be one of the latest must-play mod offerings.
As a mod, ‘Gangs of New Hanover’ is only available on PC so I do apologise to console players, but what’s on offer here is too tempting not to mention.

Created by NexusMods user MaulayaLathif10, ‘Gangs of New Hanover’ essentially adds new gang hideouts to the map plus all that you’d expect to come with those, including boss fights, rewards, and more.
In total, the mod expansion adds seven named gang territories, all located across the New Hanover region, enriching it with renewed interest and life.
Gangs will remember your attacks in a Nemesis System inspired twist
Each territory will include 11 members and one boss, all of whom you’ll have to eliminate if you want to scoop an in-game monetary reward.
Bosses have three times the health of ordinary gang members, plus 100 percent shot accuracy, so you’re going to want to make sure you have suitable cover when you take them on.
That being said, even regular gang members have 90 percent shot accuracy, so this mod requires proficient combat skills.
The hideouts work on a patrol system, so gang members won’t shoot at you until you or a fellow crook alerts them to your existence.
There are map markers for all of the new hideouts and cleared territories reset after a number of in-game days so you can keep mining the locales for rewards.
Creator MaulayaLathif10 also teases “gang warfare” which will see who random gangs randomly meet and fight one another on horseback.
Unless you join in, they’ll ignore you, but I can’t imagine many players are simpy going to sit back and watch.
However, if you do let the two groups fight it out, the winning gang will hold the battlefield before riding home; the defeated gang will have fewer members when you next attack it.
I wonder whether MaulayaLathif10 was inspired by the Nemesis System as ‘Gangs of New Hanover’ features a revenge mechanic.
Gangs will remember your kills and attacks. In fact, they can plan an ambush against you. You’ll get hit with an unsettling “someone is watching you” warning before it happens.
There are three difficulty presets for the mod, and it pauses during story missions so as not to interrupt.

It’s yet another impressive and comprehensively constructed offering from Red Dead Redemption 2’s modding community.
It’s early days for feedback, but one player has already said: “I’ve tried it, it’s really amazing.”
This is far from the only recent mod we’d recommend. Perhaps you fancy playing as Ghost Rider or introducing an awesome new companion mod.
Hopefully, a new Red Dead instalment is the plan beyond GTA VI and its inevitable online mode, but with the Van der Linde’s gang’s story feeling quite wrapped up, it awaits to be seen where Rockstar takes the series next.
